SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!

Big happy hiiiiii from my gal Alaska (and from me)!! So last post was 7 weeks ago and I was saying how amazed I was with how far I've come since starting university. And since then I've gone even further!

If you don't know, I've bagged me a job! You're now looking at a Junior Graphic Designer! I know, I'm as shocked as you. But, this job is the job I've dreamed of for the last two years after realising design is where I wanna go but did I think I'd get me a full-time, paid job, as a Junior Graphic Designer a week after finishing uni? No I bloody well didn't. But somehow I've done it!

I'm currently doing part-time as I've got to work my notices at my other jobs but I already love it! It's a Monday morning, I'm in the office, waiting to start work, Shaggy 'It Wasn't Me' is on the radio and I've already got that Friday feeling!! It doesn't feel like a job? Because so far I'm loving it. Time flies when I'm at work and I've never had that feeling before.

Another thing giving me that Friday feeling is that Love Island is back tonight! AND I'm going on holiday in three weeks with my lovely George!!!!

So in summary, I'm still out here living my best life at the age of 20 whilst being in full time work! I hope your Monday is as happy as mine!

Until next time,

Barry x.

If you’d of asked me 3 years ago where I’d be now, I’d never of said where I’ve ended up.

So this ones gonna be a soppy one, omg no way, really Mill?! But I’ve been sitting here for the last hour trying to get to sleep but what a shock, it isn’t happening. So here I am sitting in the dark watching 8 Out of 10 Cats whilst spamming my boyfriend with texts about how I don’t deserve him and that he’s the best person to bless this earth (which he is). Anyway, looking back at the Mill from three years ago: I was in my final year at college, getting ready for my exams and had my heart set on not going to university. I was gonna work full time at my old pub and work myself up to management. I was too young to go out but still used my mates ID which said I was 24 (some how it worked) and I looked like a chubby butch woman. I very much had no control of my life and had no goals, dreams or desires.

Now, three years on, I’m 31 days away from submitting my final university assignment and on the way to getting me a degree?? I’m a stone lighter and 90% satisfied with my appearance. I’m 10 weeks away from my 21st Birthday/first holiday with my partner in crime. If you’d of told 17 year old Mill that in three years time she’d be getting a degree and planning to move out with an absolute dream of a geeza I’d of probably laughed in your face and told you where to stick it.

Back then I used to have such a low self-esteem and fully believed I was gonna live a life like Bridget Jones, don’t get me wrong - there’s still time for it to all go in that direction - but I never thought I’d be as happy as I am now. In the last three years I’ve changed so much, physically and mentally and I just can’t wait to see what the next three years hold.

I am so lucky to have such an amazing family, boyfriend and friends around me, keeping my head above the water - I’ve just got 1 last push left to get my university work submitted to the best possible standard AND get the job I deserve after I qualify. I mean, it’s possible - I think???

Here you go Mill, look back at this on April 17th 2021 and hopefully you’ll be in an EVEN BETTER place than you are now! You got this hunti x

Until next time, Barry x

Let’s address the elephant in the room...

It’s 2018. Gay marriage is legal in 26 countries. Women are getting more and more equal rights. In the UK last year we finally had more first time buyers in the first time since 2006. Apart from Donald Trump and a couple of other idiotic world leaders, we seem to be on the right track yet I find that being a young adult is harder than ever.

The main problem that I see is that nowadays everybody is jealous of each other. Not in the sense of money/babies/buying houses, in the sense of what we compare ourselves to on social media. On social media we see girls who are a Size 4 on top but have the batty of a queen. Or we see people who are younger than us buying their first houses and feel like we aren’t “successful”. Someone in your class gets a better mark than you so you feel like a failure. We care too much about what other people are doing/achieving rather than how successful we are as individuals.

We need to stop comparing our lives to everyone else’s. Just because someone has a better car than you, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed, just because your mates got a good relationship, it doesn’t mean that they’re superior to you.

We need to stop comparing ourselves to each other and SUPPORT each other. If you see someone on your feed whose got a mint job/a promotion at work - TELL THEM WELL DONE. ENJOY THEIR POSITIVITY AND HAPPINESS. If you see a happy couple on Insta, appreciate that someone has found their better half!! If someone’s shifted a stone and they look BEAUTIFUL, TELL THEM!!

But despite this, CELEBRATE YOURSELF! If you’re happy in your bod, FLAUNT IT, if your mom’s a queen, TELL PEOPLE, if you’re in love with your partner and want to tell the world, DO IT!!

If you’re worried about people “moaning” about your posts on social media - DELETE THEM. If you worry people are prying on your posts, DELETE THEM!

The quote I go by, and always will is: “if something making you happy, GET RID”

And on that note, I’ve addressed the elephant in my room.

I’m doing well at uni, I’ve got the love of my life by my side and mine/his wonderful family and friends supporting me ALL THE WAY.

Bin the negativity and I’m sure you’ll feel a lot better. Because I deleted over 600 people off my Facebook today and I’ve never felt more relieved. Either support me, or get out.

All the love,
Until next time, Barry.

To the people who have made me feel worthless, vile and lonely - this is one for you.

To all the people who’ve made me feel worthless, vile and lonely...

I’d love to tell you I’m upset, but I’m not.
I’d love to tell you that I’m missing you, but I’m not.
I’d love to tell you that I am in need of your friendship, but I’m not.

I’d love to tell you that I feel miserable without you, but I don’t.
I’d love to tell you that I want you back in my life, but I don’t.
I’d love to tell you that I care for you, but I don’t.

I’d love to tell you that I miss you, but I won’t.
I’d love to tell you I’m there you for, but I won’t.
I’d love to tell you that we can fix this, but I won’t.

I’d love to be close with you again, but I can’t.
I’d love to pop round for a cuppa and a catch up, but I can’t.
I’d love to help you solve your problems when you need me, but I can’t.

I can’t be there anymore for people who aren’t there for me. I won’t allow myself to be there for people who won’t be there for me. I don’t want you to be there for me. I’m not letting you get to me anymore.

To those of you who have given me worth, love and support, whether we have been friends 10 years or 10 days, I just want to thank YOU for being so supportive, caring and compassionate. For having patience with me, whether we speak every day or every month, that doesn’t matter. Whether you’re a 10 minute drive away or a 10 hour round trip away. You’re there. You’re at the end of the phone or in my local pub - that doesn’t matter.

Just because people are physically there next to you, that doesn’t mean that they’re “there” for you.

Until next time,

Barry x

Self-Esteem, Success and the LomL!

'Ere we go, the annoying wanna-be-blogger is back with another chapter of my life that I'm going to bore you all with!!

6 weeks into 2018 and it's so far so good. Sort of. I'm not getting the grades I want at university, I'm only a couple of marks off the grade I want but I'm determined to pull it out my arse and get the 2:1 I've spent the last two and a half years aiming for. Hopefully I'll manage to pull the cat out the bag.

ANYWAY!! Enough of the uni crap. This post is going to be all about the good things in life. Well in my life. As I said in my last blogpost, link to that is here, this year is going to be my year - there is no two ways about it. Because "at the end of the day, you control your own happiness" SO THAT'S WHAT I'M DOING!! And I'm going to give you all my little tips and positive thoughts that keep me on my positive path.

Tips n Tricks
1. Well, one of the biggest problems I face in my life is my stupid self-esteem. I'm gonna sound well big-headed now and there's not a nice way that this will come across but here we go. I don't have a low self-esteem because I think I'm ugly. I don't think I'm the next Kardashian or Queen B, that isn't what I'm saying. But I don't dislike the way I look. I think I've got a decent face, me hair's not too bad and my figure is a work in progress. But it don't matter if you're reading this and thinking "looool you're deluded, you're a munter" because I've got a wonderful boyfriend who loves me even when I'm throwing up the 7 pints I drank on a Friday night. My parents are also my biggest fans, even when they dislike my Tinkerbell make-up... but my real problem with my self-esteem is me as a person. I don't understand why I have friends (I mean I've not got many but smaller circles better n all that), I don't understand why my boyfriend is with me either. I am the clingiest, sensitive, selfish, overly-emotive and laziest person I've ever met. I struggle to see the positives in myself in terms of my personality and I think that's because of the way I've been treated/let myself be treated by other people and there's only so many times you can listen to someone completely rip your personality apart and tell you how much they hate you. Anyway. The way in which I'm combating this internal battle is by listening to the people I care about. My parents, George and wonderful friends have had to constantly reassure me and I'm pretty sure they're fed up of doing it now. So I set myself 3 little to-do things a day such as: make someone smile, tell someone I love how important they are to me, try to help people with their problems etc etc etc. and this makes me feel a bit better because it stops me feeling like what I mentioned above.

2. Surrounding myself with people who want me to succeed. Nothing will drag you down more than people who don't believe in you/want you to be happy. Whether they say "good luck in your exam!" or "you got this!!" when I'm crying/stressing because I can't fathom out what the f*** the 'public sphere' is!! We need to support each other more!! If your friend is looking fire, tell them, if your feeling super blessed to have the best partner ever, tell them!! And so on etc. Don't let anyone stop you from blossoming into the person you're destined to be!

3. Get yourself a George Hendy.
Never have I ever met a human being who is so supportive, loving, kind, wonderful, funny (sometimes), thoughtful and selfless in my whole life. He tolerates everything: my low self-esteem, neediness, terrible sense of humour, long-winded stories which never have any end to them and my hungover state every Sunday morning. I will have days when I hate everything about myself or doubt myself and he picks me right back up. Never known someone be able to listen to and tolerate so much moaning until I met him.

I owe him everything and I can't wait to see what our future holds, especially our holiday to Egypt this year!! Having a partner who loves you, supports you and values you is something which I never thought I'd have but he really has changed my life.
Don't settle for anything less than the best, I did for a long time and it ruined me but luckily I found my partner in crime.

So I'm gonna leave you with that. Get you someone who values, adores and supports you. Push yourself in everything you do. And start to love yourself! Then maybe you'll feel better (I hope!)

Until next time,

Barry x

Don't get bitter... get better.

Iya, hope you all had a mint Christmas and New Year n all that jazz. If you were lucky enough to have Christmas off - I hate you, but despite working the majority of the festive period I still had a marvy time.
It's been just over a month since my last post, if you read it you'll be pleased to know I did manage to submit my university assignments that were due. I just now have an exam at the end of the month and then my w o n d e r f u l  13,000 word dissertation and another magazine to create by May - buzzin.

Anyhow. I managed to buy my boyfriend's Christmas present - we're going away for the weekend in February with our friends Josh & Hollie and I cannot wait. Despite me being fully aware that this year is gonna be pure hell until May at least, I am pretty certain that this year is going to be the best one yet...

First things first, this year is the year I (hopefully) graduate from university!!! First and second year were mint, had a right old laugh and enjoyed spending my spare time in the uni pub, spoons and Snobs. Third year has been a big sloppy turd. The workload is completely unmanageable unless you limit yourself to 5 hours sleep a night. The word dissertation makes me wanna cry and I am certainly not ready to be crackin' on with mine. I genuinely think it would be easier to learn Polish. But p o s i t i v e  v i b e s...
I do think I'll do it, if I can make it this far I'm sure I can pull this out of thin air too and then graduate with my favs.

Second reason as to why this year will be the best one yet is because it's the year I become a fully-fledged woman. I make the transition into adulthood as I will be turning 21! This doesn't sound like a big deal to you but considering I've been trying to blag that I'm "twen-teen" rather than 20 because I can't deal with not being a teenager anymore. So 21 is like actually gotta sort my life out. But, I am excited about this god-awful-teenager-to-middle-aged-hag birthday because I will be spending it in Egypt with my better half!!
I haven't been on a proper relaxing holiday for years so I can't wait to have lazy days in the sunshine, go on a camel and push George in the pool (hehe). It is definitely motivating me to smash my university tripe out.

Third reason that this is going to be my year. I've done the stupid-ass, generic New Year's resolution that everyone tries to do every year and finally rejoined the gym. I should never of stopped going but I got comfortable in my relationship and picked Papa John's over pilates and now I look like a pot-bellied pig. But this will change!!  I'm not setting unrealistic goals of trying to lose 3 stone, I just want to lose 8 pounds and be more toned by June - this is reasonable and doable as long as I stop stuffing my face with pizza and a enough Chinese food to feed a family of 4 which me and George somehow demolish between the two of us. My family and friends reading this will shout at me for saying this but hey ho - it's my bod I will do as I please.
I feel better when I go to the gym, physically and mentally. It makes me feel so much better about my life - I do not know why but it does...
Fourth and final reason as to why this year will will be MY YEAR  is because I've promised myself (and my gyal Ash), that this year will be full of positivity because I've not got time for nails. Effort to go into detail but all I will say is...

POSITIVE PEOPLE ONLY IN 2018.

So that's it. I think... if you've made it this far I hope you've realised that I've used gifs of RuPaul Drag Queens throughout this article so appreciate it...

I'm going to love and leave you with Alyssia Edwards's famous words...

Until next time,
Barry x.

young dumb n broke

So it's been 6 week since my last post which means it's been 10 weeks since I had my meltdown. Since then  so much has changed in my life and I'm still trying to figure out whether some is for the better or worse...

I'm back at university, third year and all and safe to say I hate it, but I'm slowing plodding along. I've got a month and two days to create a magazine and write 3,000 words for my journalism module - eyyyyyy. After Christmas I will feel a lot more at ease as I'll have less assignments due etc. but anyway that's not what you're here to nose about.
I've cut my hours down at work whilst back at uni which has helped in the sense of being able to study and stuff but a bit pants for me as I'm skint. I'm so used to earning £180-£200 a week and now it's like £45 a week but I love my job more than ever so I can't really moan. It's just hard because Christmas is 19 days away, I've gotta finish sorting my boyfriend's present and try and sort a lil present for the rest of the family but here I am flogging 17 DVDs and 4 box-sets for the sake of £20.

I miss being able to work 40 hours a week, I miss not having to have to do university assignments and I miss having uni deadlines before Xmas. I know for a fact that even though I break up for Christmas from university tomorrow I ain't gonna stop over Christmas because I've picked up shifts at work and have so many different assignments to do, I'm going to be eating my Christmas dinner whilst planning my next layout for my magazine.

ANYWAY, so I've kinda addressed how I'm broke...

Let's address how I'm dumb. I settle for bare shit off people that I shouldn't have to. I've got friends who only speak to me once a month even though I see them a couple times a week. I've got good friends don't get me wrong, GR8K8 & Trash are ma HUNS!! yes we have our bickers n disagreements but these two will always tell me what's what so thanks B's.

Let's start with Trashy Ashy - the biggest nail I've ever met. Ash is that girl that you'll tell her not to do something - SO SHE WILL DEFINITELY DO IT, even if I told her not to jump off a bridge, just cos I told her not to do it - she would.
But my Trashy gyal needs to just remember how much of a queen she is n how much of a beaut she is. She also needs to listen to me more cos she's the most stubborn git I've ever met. LISTEN MORE TO YOUR PALS N NOT TO ASSHOLES!!!!

GR8K8 is also a hun!!! Firstly, Kate is demanding a shoutout to Nanny Marg and Bossman n the endless English brekkies we have before we take Bossman on PARKOUR!!!! K8Y KAK is a complete darl, she gives people the biggest carrots ever and will be that friend that spends more than her life savings on make-up just to ensure she looks flames. She is also the best twerker ever. She will also allow you to reminisce on your childhood with videos such as the Bear n The Lion...

Both of them really are the best listeners and pals I've had in a long time just because they're so honest n truthful n that is what I need cos I can be a pain in the ass 90% of the time.

ENOUGH ABOUT THEM.

Me being young. Being young is a weird thing to talk about but I think it's the hardest thing I struggle with lmao. Me and Trash and Kate are all the same age but me n Kate chose uni whereas Ash chose to work. It kills me when Ash gets paid bare money a month and I just about get £300 a month now cos I've had to drop my hours.

My biggest regret in life is going to uni. Purely because I hate how skint I am. I know I could get a mega good job at the end of it but it's such a struggle and I'm so shit at this uni life like idk even if I'm gonna pass this year.

Despite all my negativity I really am super lucky to have such an amazing family and friends by my side. And also, my fave human ever...

George is my absolute rock. He will settle for my shitty rants, my low-self esteem and me forever saying I don't deserve him. I will moan to him 75% of the time about bare different problems that haven't even got anything to do with him. I owe him my life, my heart and loyalty because this past year he has kept me sane. I can't wait till I finish university so I can actually devote time to him and my pals and family.

So despite being young, dumb and broke I'm still happy and blessed and in love with my life.

My next post will be my 2017 summary.
Until next time, Barry. x

If you can't love yourself, how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?

So yesterday officially marked a month since my "I'm Sorry" post. The post which I opened up and put every single feeling, emotion and deepest darkest secrets into. And in that post I made a promise, to myself and to those who read it, and that promise was that going to "be happier, sort all my insecurities, feelings and issues out so that I can focus on making myself happy again." by today. So I suppose that this is a little update.

It's been a month since I put my heart on the line and proudly I can say - I am feeling a lot better. The reason as to why is because this past month I've learnt the most valuable lesson that I've ever learnt in the whole of my life, and the lesson I've learnt is that I need to..

"Embrace the glorious mess that you are and to fall in love with yourself is the first secret of happiness."

I'm not gonna make out that I'm 100% back to my normal self but this past month I've realised that I am my own worst enemy. I am the one who believes that "I can't do...", "I'm not good enough to do...", "I'm useless" etc. Nobody has ever told me that I'm not capable of achieving my goals, nobody has told me that I'm not good enough, nobody has ever told me that I'm useless, apart from myself. That little voice in my head is telling me all those things, constantly. However, I've managed to cut friends off over the past how many years, I've managed to ignore people's shit that they try and tell me about myself and now I've finally learnt to ignore that little voice in my head.

I am strong. I am beautiful (in my own weird way). I am going to graduate from university. I am going to make my family proud. I am gonna live the best life (quote from Abbie Bell, queen).
I suppose I'm trying to say that I've realised how important the good things in life are compared to the negatives. I mean lets make a list:
Positives:

  1. I've got the best family ever.
  2. I'm taking control of my degree. I've made the choices that will help me pursue the career I want to, yes it's going to be a struggle n 'alf but I'm more than capable of doing it.
  3. I've realised who my real friends are. I don't expect texts 24/7 or every single day I just want to have supportive people around me. Not people that are gonna use my bad days as gossip or not even text me back when I say I need them. But luckily for me, I'm the one with that power so if you're not there for me then give it a week and if we haven't spoken then realise that I'm done with you. You aren't aiding my recovery - you're hindering it.
  4. My boyfriend is an absolute king. Nothing else needs to be said. He's the best partner in crime I could ever ask for.
Negatives:

  1. I'm on anti-depressants. I've started to ween myself off them as I feel like I don't need them anymore but this is such a huge test for me. I'm determined to overcome this.
  2. I feel like a bad friend because I'm very much focused on making myself better.
So as you can see I've got half as many negatives than positives - which is wonderful. I suppose I've realised that I am happy in myself. I've realised what I'm worth and what I'm capable of.

In summary. Compared to this time last month I'm in a better place. Let's hope that in a month's time I'll be in another better place. In the words of RuPaul...
All the love. Barry.

Fix up look sharp.

So, those of you who read my previous post, 871 of you to be exact, this is a follow up/an update as to how I've been getting on/doiing - not that I expect any of you to care but you're all clearly nosy gits so...

Obviously admitting to myself my true feelings was very difficult and hard for me to do but since I've taken that step I've realised a lot. Especially who cares and who doesn't...

I am not a liar, I am not a bullshitter, I am very much honest and upfront whether I've hurt you, made your day or been a bitch - I will do what I see fit. Sadly I'm very strong minded and there's no changing the way I feel but luckily I am surrounded by a sea of people who have learnt to love and tolerate me for who I am.

My main G, and the one who I owe the rest of my life to is 'yo boy George' as he calls himself. And he really is the MVP in my life - no disrepek to mom, dad, friends etc. but this boy hears it ALL and makes me the cups of tea, gives me cuddles etc. until he knows I feel better - don't get me wrong Labbie you did this last Wednesday but I adore ya still.
This man provides me with endless amounts of happiness, joy and pride and I couldn't ask for a better other half. I owe him everything.
I know I'm a mess at the moment, I know I'm causing him - and all my other valued friends/family in my life - a lot of stress/worry but I promise I will get better. I am getting better thank you to these people.

George xxxxx
I've learn that the problems we face have to be dealt with head on and tackled. We can't just run away. Like I tried to with my job because I got too stressed. However, I'm so blessed to have such a darling of a manager who is there for me every step of the way.

Since my last post I've realised which friends adore me as much as I adore them as well as who cares and who doesn't.

I'm giving my family the biggest shoutout ever and also to my wonderful K8 Kak, Trashleigh, Stan, Labbie, Anna, Ellis, Cal, Jase and co. - you know who you are and I adore you all so much for being my huns.

Just know I'm getting there and it's all because of you.

Positive vibes, jibes and love - Barry x.

I'm sorry.

It's been five months since my last post, whoopsy-daisy. Kinda forgot that this blog existed until I realised that I need it more than ever. I know why I stopped writing and that's because I stopped being honest with myself and began to keep things to myself.

At the end of April I lost my Nana Freda very suddenly which had a major impact upon my family and myself as I realised how quickly people can leave us, no warning signs, no questions to her health, nothing. Yet she was very very ill. As she passed I couldn't afford to grieve as I had deadlines at uni so I just submerged myself into my studying. As I finished university for second year I jumped straight into working two summer jobs full-time and that's all my life has been since.

40 hour weeks whilst all my friends jet off on their jollies or go travelling around Africa, America etc. and I'm just spending the summer working and I haven't even saved any of the money, go me. Luckily on my days off I've managed to see a few of my pals, my family and my boyfriend but sadly that wasn't enough to stop me sinking into the hole I now find myself in.

I'm not a happy bunny. I'm not 'happy as barry'. I'm 'depressed', according to my doctor anyway. I shouldn't be because I have such a wonderful boyfriend, some lovely friends and family but yet I still find myself crying almost every day. But until last week, nobody knew. I hadn't told anyone how I felt. I'd continued wearing the mask that I hide behind. At work I'm the loudest girl behind the bar, always trying to make my colleagues and customers laugh, not wanting them to know that on the inside I'm miserable. At home, I would cry whilst my mom and dad slept so that they wouldn't have to deal with me and my silly thoughts/feelings. Around friends I'll laugh and not show a single bit of my true emotions as I'm not the friend that cries. I'm the strong friend. I'm the one who listens to everyone else's problems and knows what to say. I'm the one that will always smile no matter what. But I'm not.

I feel weak. I feel vulnerable. I feel stupid.

I know it's okay to be upset,  I will always tell my friends that - but that isn't me. And I suppose one of the reasons why I am now 'depressed' is because I beat myself up for being upset, I feel like a burden. I don't feel like my problems/feelings are worth talking about because I don't have any self-worth. I don't feel worthy of time or a shoulder to cry on. I don't understand why I feel like this but I do.

I suppose I'm gonna use this post to say sorry.

To all my friends I've ignored, abandoned or just been a bad friend to...

I'm sorry for not texting to see how you are or how your summer has been.
I'm sorry for not coming to see you when I promised I would.
I'm sorry for not coming on those nights out that I told you I'd go on.
I'm sorry for not being there when you needed someone to talk to.
I'm sorry for being selfish.
I'm sorry for working all the time and not making time for you.
I'm sorry for being that friend that isn't even really a friend.

I didn't mean to make you feel like I didn't care or didn't want to see you, I'm just not a good friend and haven't been for a while. It isn't that I don't want to be your friend or that I don't want to spend time with you. I just don't want to be a burden. I didn't want to tell you how I really felt but I suppose that's gone out the window now I've done this post...

I'm doing this post as a motivation kinda thing to get myself out of this hole that I'm in. I want to be happy. I want to go back to the fun-loving, out-going, motivated girl I used to be rather than a hermit who spends my spare time napping or lying in bed all because I don't want to do anything. I need to sort myself out.

So here's a public promise to myself and to all of you who read this. This time next month I am going to be happier. I'm going to try and sort all my insecurities, feelings and issues out so that I can focus on making myself happy again.

All I can say really is a massive thank you and shoutout to my friends and family who have helped support me and love me endlessly, despite me being a sheathed. And the biggest shoutout ever to my boyfriend for being my absolute rock. I'd dread to think how bad I'd be if I didn't have him.

So be patient will me please pals, thank you.

That's when it hurts...

Haven't done a post for almost 2 months, oops but this is one that I see relevant to others at this moment in time.
Lately, my friends, acquaintances and people I follow on social media all seem to be upset as their relationships have finished/fallen apart. I constantly see tweets, statuses and have conversations about how shit relationships are/how upset they are now that it's over. Luckily for me I'm the happiest I've ever been and I couldn't be any more grateful for what I have but it's horrible to see people coming out of/being in shit relationships and not being able to do anything to help. Now this blog post probably won't help, it may even make some of you cry (if anyone reads it lol). But what you need to realise is that it will get better even though it may get worse at the start.

You can front it out all you want. Go out, shag about, get drunk, distract yourself with work/studying. Doing anything you can to ignore the pain you feel. But there are many times that you won't be able to block out this pain but that's okay. It's okay not to be okay. You can think you're over it, you're okay on your own but there will be some little things that happen as time passes that will rip your heart out.

So here it goes:

When you wake up in a morning and don't have the 'good morning text', that's when it hurts. When you drive past their house/road and go to pop in for a cuppa and a cuddle but realise you can't, that's when it hurts. When you find their t-shirt that you used to sleep in, that's when it hurts. When you see a video on Facebook that you know they'd love, that's when it hurts. When that song comes on that you used to belt out at the top of your lungs no matter where you were, that's when it hurts. When you go to a family meal and they're not by your side, that's when it hurts. When you realise that you've lost their family as well as them, that's when it hurts. When you pass an exam/get promoted at work and you can't share your happiness with them, that's when it hurts. When you've had a shit day and just want a cuddle but they aren't there anymore, that's when it hurts. When there's no longer 'their side of the bed', that's when it hurts. When you go to sleep on your own, that's when it hurts. When you see them happy without you, that's when it hurts. When they move on, that's when it kills you.

But..

Once you've faced all these things, you will be fine. You might feel like you've lost your right arm, you can't imagine their life without them. But there was a life before them, and there will be one after if you do sadly break up. You don't need someone to make you happy, it's a bonus that they do. Yet, there is a reason you broke up. People change, sometimes for the better, others for the worst. But these changes will impact upon the relationship.

Surround yourself with people that do make you happy. That support you and love you. And if it was meant to be, it would have been.

You will be happy, even on your own so just remember - it's not the end of the world.

Keep your head up and believe in yourself.

Until next time,

The Real MVP (it's me lol)

So my last post was all about not regretting your mistakes and to take control of your own happiness and for once, I've kinda listened to myself.
I can definitely say that I am currently the happiest I've been in a very very long time. I mean I'm stressed as hell with uni assignments and my big D proposal coming up next week, quite frankly I'm touching cloth just thinking about it now but anyway, despite this I am super duper happy. I finally feel like I'm in charge and full control of my happiness, choices and I very much do things for myself now rather than others. Please don't assume I've turned into a selfish arsehole, I haven't, I'm just doing the things I want to do...

I used to be a right tit and suffer with that "fear of missing out" crap so I would go out up town/to the pub/for meals when I couldn't afford it and even when I didn't want to go because I worried I'd be left out. If the uni lot were going to the pub on an hour break when I was in class I'd worry that I was missing out on something as big as the general election. How bloody stupid is that? If you're like that then I'm sorry and please listen to me, just stop it. I've learnt to juggle my time and divide it between friends, family, working two jobs, attending university as well as keeping on top of my work and at the minute, it's going well but, it's also flying by.
In bed this morning I realised that it was March next week - I finish my second year of university at the end of April, I'm twenty in June - T W E N T Y . I still feel 17 not in 2017. Now I don't hate many things, my main hate is stickers on cars (DJBJ can vouch for me, they're the worst) but I absolutely hate the thought of getting old and losing people. My little brother is sixteen next month, I tell everyone that he's 12 because in my head, he is, and that's because I refuse to accept that we're growing up. I'm like a female, not so young-looking, with only a few friends rather than a tribe of lost boys - Peter Pan. I mean, I know I'm getting older and a lot more maturer in the sense of the things I do, the way I behave etc. but I know that in 12 months time I'll be coming to the end of university and have to go out in the real world and get a real job.
Am I ready for that? Is Michael Jackson alive? No, not a chance.

But, I've decided that I'm just going to focus on the present. Get my head down, finish my second year of university, juggle my social life and not worry about things that won't matter to me in a years time.
Everything is changing. I'm changing, you're changing, we are all changing quicker than petrol prices and we just need to get on with it.
Happiness is key and if your idea of happiness is a Friday night watching a film and eating a Chinese then do it, or if you'd rather go down the pub, do it. Whatever it is that you do with your time/money/presence then make sure it's what you want to do because all that FOMO crap just makes you waste money and time that you don't have, trust me I've done it. I'm not saying turn into a hermit crab and don't go out or do things, just make sure you're putting yourself and your needs first, like you know I really need to go ice skating... Don't do things because you want to please others, they'll be happy if you're happy and if their not then...

So in summary:

  1. FOMO is BS.
  2. I'm not ready to grow up.
  3. Be selfish and do your thing.
  4. By the time I do another blog post I need to have gone ice skating.
Until next time,

Barry. x

What's the plan, Stan?

When we're growing up our parents tell us all the same thing (mine did anyway), you go to school/college/uni, get your qualifications, get a job, find a partner, get married, have kids and watch them grow whilst you wait to die. That is what all the films, society and peers tell us to do, but it isn't as black and white as that is it. I mean look at the film 'Gone Girl' (SPOILER ALERT) you're watching it thinking, oh fart Batman has gone and killed his wife and is trying to cover it but it turns out she's a bloody nutter whose trying to frame her husband for her murder cos he cheated on her. Not that that's ever happened to me but I swear it's relevant. What I'm trying to say is that we never know what's round the corner but the issue with society today is that we expect to be able to control every single aspect of our lives and if we don't manage to do this then we've failed, NO. STOP IT RIGHT NOW.
We're only human. We can't control what happens. Even the weatherman can't get the weather right because we're only human, it's okay to make mistakes. I've made many many many mistakes but do I regret them? Not a single bit. Because that's what shapes us as a person, our decisions we make, our outlook on life etc. But even though I've made many mistakes, a lot of unexpected positives/spontaneous decisions have been the best moments in my life. For example:

  • Got my A-Level results, realised "oh christ, I've actually passed my A-Levels, maybe I should do something with this rather than work full time in a pub." Ended up on a Media & Communications degree at BCU, best decision of my life. Met the best people in the world & I'm some how on the way to getting a 2:1 in my degree. I literally opened my exam results, rang BCU and 5 minutes later I was going to uni. (Mom and Dad were v v v surprised/scared but here we are a year and a half later.)
  • Grampy died. Yes I'm mentioning this again, sorry not even sorry. This was the only death in the family that I've ever experienced and definitely one of the worst. However, it's made me realise how important family are and how grateful we need to be to have those we love around us. I didn't expect it, none of us did but it's definitely made me realise that we do need to live every day like it's our last.
  • Resigning from my old job. Wasn't really my choice but hey ho. I thought that job was the best job of my life, I was going to work there full time, I'd planned it all. However, the tide changed and I was a state, didn't have a job, no money - it genuinely was sh*te but now I'm in two jobs that I love. With the best colleagues that are like families I never had. Good pay, positive work environment, I've got to know regulars etc. and it's grand but I genuinely thought at the time that I was going to be on the dole for the rest of my life - which is not the life for me.
  • Meeting George. (Here's when I get bent so sorry). Never ever ever did I see myself with anyone. Purely because I don't rate myself in the slightest, I'm gobby, selfish, self-centred and a pretty crap human-being but somehow I've found someone who will tolerate me (don't know how or why but here we are). I am not the kinda person that invests myself in people purely because they always end up either
  1. Doing me over.
  2. Getting bored of me.
  3. I get bored of them.
  • Not that I'm high-maintaince or anything cos I really ain't but I get scared of getting attached because they always end up leaving but somehow I got lucky and met one of the best human-beings I've ever met who listens to my waffle & is super supportive of everything I've done/do and I genuinely couldn't be anymore grateful. But, it literally came from nowhere. We met one night and it's all gone up from there which is not what I expected at all, but I'm certainly not complaining.
I suppose the whole point of this is me trying to say, don't let the bad days get you down. Whether you've been sacked from your job, failed a uni module (GG), fell out with a friend etc. because, I know it's a cliché but, everything happens for a reason, it's all about how you pick yourself and get back on that shetland pony.
Even though we'd like to, we can't plan everything in our lives, we can't control the weather, global warming or how we'll leave the earth but what we can do is control our happiness, our decisions, who we spend time with, the music we listen to, what we spend money on etc. So as long as you're happy in the moment (and it's not illegal) then bloody do it.
Take a leaf out of my Grampy's book and be happy and live every day like it's you're last, because for all we know, it might be.

Happiness is a man-made thing so make your own.

All the love, until next time,

Barry x

2017//Smile you filthy animals.

Another door closes, another one opens, blah blah blah. "New year, new me!!!" all that crap can just get in the bin. I don't see why on January 1st people set themselves stupid, unachievable goals that are just going to put a grey cloud over their day if they don't manage to achieve it. I say this yet look at my last post, oops I'm a hypocrite.
Anyway, what I've decided to do is to make a little happy, go-to post for myself/others for when they're down to pick themselves back up. So if you're upset because you've argued with bae or you had a bad day at work then remember these little things.

1. Look around you.
Last year I made more mistakes that a drunken 18 year old in Magaluf, I was an absolute state but somehow I've still got a strong group of friends & family around me to help keep me grounded and support me. If they really love you they'll stand by you through everything (unless you murder someone but c'mon you can't expect them to back you if they know you're a murderer) and if they don't, well, you know they weren't really your friends. It's all about "leave no man behind".

2. 'Will it matter in 6 months time?'
Now this policy is something I apply to almost every single problem I get myself into as we are the most spoilt, third-world problem filled generation to ever walk the earth, meaning that we are infamous for blowing everything out of proportion. For example when Kim K lost her earring:
The girl acted like she'd lost her limb but, do you think she still cries about this diamond earring? Probably not no, because it doesn't matter. So if you're sitting here after being at work and someone's spoke to you like dirt just remember, in 6 days, 6 months, 6 years etc. it really won't matter. If you 'only got a 2:1' on an assignment then don't beat yourself up, let this motivate you to improve on the next one. The cup is always half full, not half empty.

3. The grass will be green if you water it.
Everyone's heard the saying 'the grass is always greener on the other side' but it really isn't, it's green if you water it. What I mean by this is that if you wake up and your initial thought is 'today is gonna be a bad day' then odd's are, it will be. It's a placebo effect. If you're waiting for something to go wrong then you will find fault in everything. If you wake up and tell yourself that you're gonna have a good day, 90% of the time, you do. And that is due to the positive outlook you have from the start of the day. Obviously you can't apply this to everything but just give it a go, I promise you, you'll feel better.

4. A cup of tea and a cuddle are the best healers.
I've lost count of how many times I've come home hysterical over stupid things (things that I can't even remember because point 2...) but once I've sat down and had a cup of tea and a rant with my Mom/Dids/WW etc. I'm fine. I'm a stickler for winding myself up because if something irritates/upsets me I keep thinking about it - stop. Have a cuppa, have a rant, put it in a box and burn it - it really won't matter in 6 months time, just like the little thing you're thinking about now as you read this - PUT IT IN THE BIN.

5. Your happiness is the most important.
Being the way I am, and the way I've been raised, I will always put other people before myself and looking back, I need to stop doing it as much. This sounds super bad but some people will abuse your selflessness if they know they can. Start doing the things you want to do and I promise you, you'll feel 10000x better for it. I mean don't get me wrong, don't turn into a selfish arsehole but if you don't wanna do something/do wanna do something (as long as it isn't murder) then...
If you don't wanna do something but do it just to please people then you won't enjoy it (kinda relates to point 3) so don't waste your time.

Now these 5 things aren't massive, unrealistic things to remember, they're simple (like me lol) and they might seem too simple but I can promise you now. I'm in the best place I have been for a long, long time. Last year was full of peaks and troughs, I wasted time with the wrong people which made me super ill and unhappy, looking back I was a nail to be fair. But, once I removed the negativity and the arseholes everything gradually improved. Some people wait to see you fail and they're waiting to take your place/happiness - remove them and remember these 5 little things and tell me in a month that you aren't 10x happier.

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year, I certainly did. And I also hope you enjoyed this well over-due blogpost - big up Popsi and Momma Juels for demanding a new one.

Until next time,

Barry x.

I've got a massive bucket(list)...

Now don't get me wrong, I bloody hate it when it gets to New Years day and everyone's New Year Resolutions come up and their bucket-lists are splashed everywhere, summaries on the year etc. so I'm gonna get mine out the way now.
This year has been pretty bog-standard. Had a mega poo start to the year, wasted my time on the wrong people but also met some of the best people in my life (shoutout to Meg & Labbie). Finished Uni in May and went to Amsterdam with my uni pals and I thought that was going to be the start of the best summer yet, I had Stone Roses coming up on the 15th of June with Dad, my 19th on the 25th and the whole of summer to make the most of.
Roses were incredible, up there as one of the best gigs of my life, despite Public Enemy being dog-arse. But after that, June-August it were pretty awful. I had no job, I'd finished my first year of Uni so all my friends had gone home/away for summer, England got kicked out the Euros by Iceland, I broke my toe on my Birthday, it were Gramps' Birthday the week after & the anniversary of his death and all I did for those 2 months was drink 4 days out of 7 every week for about 6 weeks. I only got to see my friends at home on weekends because they worked full time, Mom and Dad were working/on holiday in Turkey and I ended up spending 6 hours a day playing PokemonGo on my own - I were a dreg I know. Then mid-July I had an interview for a job at my favourite football club for a job in hospitality, applied just to shut Dad up because obviously I was living off nothing and going out 4 times a week and some how I bagged the job. Now I've worked there just under 3/4 months and I've already been promoted so it turns out I have a gift in selling pies - who knew ey.
Then Tember-now I got another job, clearly I'm employable?? And went back to uni which at the minute I cannot wait to see the back of because assignments and deadlines are coming out of my earholes. Stopped going out and drinking as much which you know is always good (for my livers sake anyway) despite it turning me into the biggest lightweight I know - except Labbie and Budge (sorry not sorry).
But it's 2 weeks until I finish uni for 2016 and 3 weeks until Christmas, shoot me now I haven't any money of anyone's present bar my Dad's so this will go well. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is, this years turned out pretty alright - you watch me jinx this now and it all goes tits up and I spend Christmas day being sick and crying about how much I hate my life.

Despite me being content with everything I definitely want to try and do more/get more out of life rather than having lazy days and not leaving bed until 3pm or going out all the time then having 3 day hangovers. SO the way I see it is - if I publicly post my bucket-list (like those annoying gits do on NYD) then by this time next year I can look back and see how successful/unsuccessful I've been.
Now I'm not going to be unrealistic and plan to lose 9 stone or something saft but I've always been one of those get up and go kinda people so I suppose I've gotta do what 11 year old MillyB would of and just do it.

1. Get my shoulder tattoo. Now this sounds silly to put on a bucket list because it's so bloody do-able but I just keep putting it off. I don't really understand why I'm being such a tit because I've already got my one on my ribs and I've wanted this one longer. Yet, I still haven't had it done so by this time next year Millyboo you better have those roses on your shoulder.
2. Go back to Poland. I went to Auschwitz and Krakow when I was in Year 10 with school and it was the most harrowing but enlightening trip of my life. It was so fascinating to see the camps, hear the stories and see what those poor people had to endure and live in. The reason as to why I want to go back is because now I'm older I know I'd appreciate it more and I'd pay a lot more attention to the stories we were told etc. I'll give myself a 4 year window to do this one because well I'm a student and I'm poor.
3. Get at least 25 people I know to sign up to be blood donors. Now, the reason as to why I'm putting this one on here is because my previous post had almost 400 views, so I know at least 10 of you read the whole of the last post. Blood donating is something very close to my heart and that's because a lot of my family members have relied on blood transfusions to keep them alive, holla MommaJuels & Grampy. I used to be the biggest wuss when it came to needles, I used to cry, scream and run out the room if the nurse ever mentioned the word needle but once you've done the first donation then you realise 1. it doesn't hurt 2. how easy it is to save a life thanks to that 1 needle. I've been a donor since I was 16/17 and it's so easy & so rewarding. You can save lives for literally lying on a bed for 5 minutes it is that easy. Anyway for more info on that you can message me or click here.
4. Finish University with at least a 2:1. Now this is a biggy because it's not something I can achieve in a day. After Christmas I've really gotta push the boat out at university so that I can at least try my best to get the 2:1 I want by the end of my degree. Don't get me wrong I'd love a First but being a thick girl from Dudley you gotta be realistic, ayit.
5. Go to a music fesitval!!!!! This is a saft one cos it's easy enough to do. I love camping, I love music but every year I promise myself I'll go to a festival - and never bloody go. So Summer 2017 Milly B get yourself a ticket and a tent because you're going to one.
6. Move out. SORRY MOM N DAD, I LOVE YOU N'ALL BUT IN 3 YEARS TIME I GOTTA BE IN MY OWN NEST, I CAN'T DEAL WITH YOU BEING IN CHARGE OF THE TELLY.
7. Go Inter-railing. I didn't do 11 years of Scouting and learn how to use a compass and a map to not apply it to something in my life. So by the time in 22 if I haven't gone inter-railing then I'm going for my 22nd bday, you saw it here first okay.
8. Do a sky-dive. Now this is the one I'm gonna regret posting. I bloody hate heights. I get motion sickness and can't even go on a roller-coaster but I am determined to do a sky-dive for charity by my 21st Birthday so I've given myself a year and a half to find some balls. Pops is gonna howl with laughter when he reads this because he's wanted me to do one for years. So here I am, promising you all now - by my 21st Birthday I, Amelia Grace Barnfield, will have done a sky-dive for charity.

9. Run a half-marathon. Run being a very loose term. Nah, those who know me will know I'm as fit as a baby pig. I don't really do much exercise anymore because I'm lazy and drive everywhere (and my gym buddy Mollmoo has gone back to uni so I have no motivation lol). So by this time next year I'm going to of at lest attempted to run half a marathon. I mean I can't guarantee that I'll A. run it or B. finish the half marathon but you know I'll give it a good go - PureGym I'm coming for you.
10. Not have any secrets hidden from my loved ones. So my final one is a kinda cryptic one. All I'll say is that I'm a right stickler for bundling stuff up and keeping all my worries and stuff to myself but I really, really want to change that. I guess I get worried that I'll look weak or foolish or silly etc. so I don't bother telling people stuff. But, but Christmas 2017 I want to be able to look at my loved ones and know that there's nothing I can't tell them.

And that's me done! My 'massive' bucket-list. I'm totally gonna regret staying up writing this when I've gotta be up at 6am but here we are MillyB you never learn. Let me know what's on your bucket-list & how realistic you think mine is!

That's me done for today and probably done until after the 12th of December as I've got so many assignments to do and submit as well as working and socialising so until then,
Barry x.

You were my best friend but then you...

So I know this blog's called 'happyasbarry' so I'm supposed to try and do happy posts but this one is going to throw a spanner in the works. If you're a tear-jerker then leave now because it's gonna be sad in parts.
Sounds silly but I'm one of those people that always tries to act/be happy because I don't like bringing people down but bottling up really doesn't help, so I'm gonna let it all out now. Those of you who know me will know that I'm usually a happy, buzzed, confident kinda girl but sometimes I get sad, very, very sad. There's only one thing that won't leave my mind and it probably never will but that thing is the death of my Grampy.

Now I'm not saying I don't love my other family members because I do, my Mom, Dad & brother are like my best friends but my Granddad Ray was the apple of my eye. My oldest childhood memories are full of him as are the majority of other memories I have from when growing up and that's because he & my Nanny Mary played such an important role in my life.
When I was younger Mom and Dad both used to work full-time jobs so Gramps and Nan would pick me and Tom up from nursery/school so I'd see them 6 out of 7 days a week (Sunday's were always spent with them too) and used to spend the whole of summer with them so they became secondary parents. I always remember in the Spring we would walk to the top of the road by my primary school and I'd stand under the blossom trees and Gramps would shake the branches so I got showered in petals and just laugh and dance whilst he did too. Then we'd get home and he'd always make some crazy concoction of ice cream, chocolates and sweets and I used to have to sneakily eat it otherwise Nan would shout at him.
As a family we would go on holiday for 2 weeks every summer and safe to say, those holiday's were the best holiday's I've ever had. One holiday Granddad got food poisoning and I woke up and his lips were that swollen he looked like Angelina Jolie. There was never a dull moment with Granddad around.
But now their are dull moments, and quite a few of them. I miss when he used to get Tom's 'Action Man' stuck in the oak tree in the garden so he'd throw brooms, rakes and all-sorts up there trying to free it - which failed to work meaning he had to get on the shed roof and remove like 20 items by the end of it. I miss the times when used to throw me and catch me and then the time I knocked the clock off the wall and it cracked his head open (honestly the geez was so unlucky.) But the thing I miss the most is the happiness he brought.
My Dad and Granddad's relationship was like nothing I've ever seen. They were two peas in a pod. And I know Dad won't mind me saying this but they were best friends and they're my best friends too. Gramps always brought us happiness and it was just effortless, he just beamed of it. His contagious laugh and warm smile was like no other.
The love he and my Nan shared was admirable. They used to bicker like every couple did but we all knew neither of them meant it, they were just so in love.

The man was just a delight to have. He was so loving, compassionate and warm. He treated anyone like his own and was so selfless. He treated my Mom like a daughter he never had. He loved everyone and anyone. He was a real hard-working man, and lived a very busy and jam-packed life. Worked hard for himself and his family and he should be very proud because he is everything I want to be and more.

The reason why all this ramble is coming out now is because
1. It's something I feel like I need to say.
2. Christmas is on the way.
Now I bloody love Christmas but nobody loved it more than Granddad. Every year he would plaster the house in trimmings from tinsel to tree's to singing mice in a stocking - Granddad went all out. Every year we would watch Home Alone 1 & 2 at least 20 times during the festive period. We would know (I still know) it word for word and cry with laughter throughout the films like it was our first time watching them. We'd eat rum truffles and sing our hearts out to Boney M Mary's Boy Child whilst dancing round the kitchen. He and Dad would dress up as Santa on Christmas day for me and Tom, it was magical. But that doesn't happen anymore, because he's not here.
Don't get me wrong, I still have a brilliant Christmas with my wonderful family, but it isn't the same. The magic has gone because Gramps has gone.
I'll never forget the day he got diagnosed with cancer, because that was the day he should of died. I don't mean that in the sense of I wanted him to die but he defied every single odd to survive that day. We/he didn't know he had cancer and his bowel burst, meaning that all the wastage in his body was in his blood stream, basically meaning he has blood poisoning and the cancer & waste was being pumped around his body. That day was April 12th 2011. The doctors told my parents to expect the worst, there was a very likely chance that he wouldn't see the day through, he lived for almost 3 years after that day. Sadly, in the end it killed him but he fought and fought through so much treatment and pain for 3 years to watch me and Tom grow into the people we are now.
This is going to sound very selfish but I wish he could of held of just a bit longer. He died on July 24th 2013. I was 16. Thankfully he lived to see me leave school & do him proud and got to see me turn 16 but there was still so much he has missed/will miss.
We always used to say that he'd teach me how to drive, he'd be there on my wedding day to see Dad give me away. He'd meet my children and be the best Great-Granddad a child could ask for, but sadly, he had to go.
It's still so raw. That might be because this is the first death I've had to experience but it was definitely one of the worst because he was so important to me. But I know he's still here, and still in my heart and mind forever but I'd do anything for one more day. One more conversation. One more laugh. But I can't have that.

I suppose the reason why I've done this blog-post is because I see a lot of things on social media of people moaning about their families or I see that people don't appreciate having their loved ones still with them and that really does upset me because I don't want them to feel the way I do now. I used to see Gramp 3/4 times a week towards the end of his life but for me I wish I'd spent more time. The last time I saw him was mine and his joint Birthday meal in July 2013, I didn't see him after that. I just want to say that I'm sorry if I've let you down Gramp. I hope I haven't and that you're always in my heart and mind. I'll never forget you and I'm eternally grateful for the memories and times we shared.
Just please, those of you who are reading this, make the most of the time you have with people, especially at Christmas.

Merry Christmas as always Gramps. (early I know).

Thank you for everything, love and miss you always.

I hope I haven't made anyone cry with this so sorry if I have, I promise the next one will be happier.

Until next time,
Barry x.

If you're happy and you know it read my blog... (or if not read it too it's about happiness)

There is nothing worse than when you're ill and over-tired on a Monday and you don't shake it off all week, which is exactly how I will feel tomorrow. After only getting 13 hours sleep across 3 nights it's safe to say I'm exhausted but that doesn't mean I can use that as an excuse for not doing my posts, which I did last week, oops sorry my effort is poor I know. This week I've been up and down more than a fireman on a pole, I've been crying, I've been laughing, I've been stressed out to hell but you've gotta remember to smile at the end of it/when you know you've got a night-out coming up (Liverpool next weekend, eeee!!)

But even when you know you're gonna be spending the week sitting in doing uni work or you're working all weekend you need to remember how important happiness is. We all have days that have us pulling our hair out, especially me. I mean this weekend I worked almost 18 hours in two days whilst trying to juggle seeing family, friends and doing my boat load of uni work, the uni work I should really be doing now but here we are, whoops. However, I spent the day surrounded by 3 of my best friends so my lazy day was spent well.

Anyway, what I'm waffling myself onto is how I keep myself happy/how you can keep yourself happy. I'm a strong believer in if you get knocked down, get straight back up but if you're a lazy git like me getting up off the floor is a task and requires a table/chair's support to help you get back on your feet so let me be your table/chair/helping hand. I'm not too sure why I try and do all these happy, positive posts like I'm Vanessa Feltz because my life is as messy as me on a Saturday night after a bottle of Southern Comfort and 4 Sambuca's but here we are, I'll give it a good go.

1. Dance. I said this in my post the other week but dancing is the best remedy going I'm telling you now. Even if it's a little boogie when you're making your mom (it's mom not mum before you start) a cuppa (which I rarely do so sorry Juels, you love me deep down) or if your favourite song comes on when you're in the car, having a sing and a dance will always help lift the mood. I mean all I've gotta do is put Sorry on by Béyonce and I'm off thinking I'm the queen B herself. I mean I know I am basically her double but you know. Just if you're reading this now, wondering why you're bothering in reading my waffle or if you're in a rubbish mood then take a little 4 minute break, slap H'TWO'O 'What's It Gonna Be' on and I can tell you now you'll be sweet as a nut and if you're not then sorry, I can't help you so you may as well leave now.

2. Cut the negativity out of your life. Sometimes the thought of losing someone you love/care for makes you feel sick so you'll stand by them no matter what. But sometimes you need to stand back and look at both pros and cons that come from the relationship with the person and if they make you more unhappy than they do happy then you need to let them go. Brutal as it is but you don't need your friends to be stressing you out as well as everything else. Friends, family, partners etc. are supposed to be there to support you, help you, shout at you when you've been an absolute melt (like me 99% of the time so s/o to Possum, Twenty-Blue, DJBJ, Cocktail Queen, Pineapple Klopp & everyone else for tolerating my absolute mares) and if they don't then listen to me & my Queen Béyonce...

3. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Now, as all my friends will know, I am the worse for moping around when I'm upset. I will either
a. Cry.
b. Get drunk.
c. Argue with everyone, especially my poor mother, I love you Julieboo.
d. Sleep
So safe to say I never really resolve my issues, I just try and step around them like they're a little puddle in the road when really they're like that puddle in Vicar of Dibley, 3.2.1, gif.

I don't think I've ever seen something that represents my life so accurately and if you know me well, you can vouch for me too. Anyway, I suppose I'm trying to say, don't be like me. I'm gonna try and listen to my own advice too so if I can do it, so can you. Just don't be afraid of being wrong. We all make mistakes, whether it be something little like you know, accidentally forgetting your skirt and walking all the way to school with just your tights on or something major like, oh I don't know, driving the wrong way down a dual-carraigeway - whatever it is, it won't kill you (as long as nobody dies) so stop worrying. So, if you're doing a 2,500 word essay right now and you're only on 650 words, Pineapple Klopp you got this boo, then stop worrying - this will not help you. As a wise old man told me (it was a coke-head called Steve that I met in Player's but sh that doesn't help create the image I was after) “Worry often gives a small thing a big shadow.” and safe to say, coke-head Steve is right. It only makes things worse. So stop worrying, pull your socks up, get a cup of tea and deal with it.

4. Go and get some space.
Where I live isn't the best place in the world but big up to the big BC for providing me with both a mix of urban and sweet countryside. When I'm upset/stressed/down/angry the thing that always sorts me out is going on a walk. Even if it's a 10 minute walk around your estate or and hour round your local park. If you're feeling frustrated then I beg you, put half and hour aside, leave your phone at home/turn airplane mode on and listen to your favourite song and just walk. The fresh air will help ease your mind and clear your head so that when you return to your work/argument/assignment - whatever it is - you'll have a clear and sensible resolution because you've taken the time to pause and think logically.

5. Think of other people.
If you're like me, when something goes wrong, you'll use the line "shoot me now" or "I'm just gonna kill myself" etc. etc. all because you know someone pulled out on you in a junction or when that one person you hate walks into the room and is so far up your arsehole you feel like you're giving birth and you just wanna knock them out. The issue with this is, we as a generation/nation are the biggest drama queens to ever bless the Earth. The problems of a third-world country actually make us a joke. Imagine being homeless, you have no family, no friends and you're lucky if you're gonna find a door-way to sleep in tonight - that's when you should be contemplating taking your own life - not when McDonald's McFlurry machine has broken. I suppose the point I'm trying to get to is just, be grateful. I'm not saying let's laugh in the face of those who are really suffering but I suppose I just think we need to realise, not all is bad. If someone cuts you up so you have to emergency stop, peak for you but maybe if you weren't such an ass and just let them out then you wouldn't be having to slam your breaks on 'ey. I understand we all have bad days and stuff gets too much but I can promise you now - there is someone a lot more worse off than you so if they can get through their poor lives then so can you.

I think the whole reason why I've written this is because they're a lot of people in my life at the moment who are down/stressed/worried/upset and I just want them to know that it's all going to be grand. You're beautiful people and your life is in your hands so don't waste it. Don't go to sleep and think 'tomorrow is going to be as bad as today" because it is that kind of mental attitude that will get you trapped in the vicious cycle of unhappiness, something which hopefully I've managed to shake you out of. If I haven't then sincere apologies but I gave it a good go.
I mean I always try to pick people up when they're down because I expect people to do the same for me. I say always, that's a little white lie. Just gonna say massive apology to the guy whose car-park space I stole 4 weeks ago and laughed at whilst saying "It's a dog eat dog world fam, if you can't win cheat." so I'm sorry for making your day worse but like I said in point three, everyone makes mistakes.

So I hope this little (massive) post has helped cheer you up a bit, those who made it this far anyway and wish you all the love and a delightful week. Not going to lie, I'm probably going to miss next week's post/post on the wrong day due to the fact that this weekend I intend to get completely obliterated in Liverpool so apologies in advance. (I'M SO EXCITED I CANNOT WAIT.)

Anyway,

Until next time.
